My queerness is not glamorous and it’s worth being. Queerness has allowed me to explore depths of self-love, acceptance and agency I never knew was possible.

On the road to liberation,
You stop for a second.
Is the world normal or am I abnormal?
Neither the former nor the latter, I am a human being and I am human.

But why is everyone making who I love a deal,
For a fact, I know there are interesting things about me rather than my sexuality
Like
My popping melanin skin
My height that everyone calls “American” etc

Being queer means love to me
The unconditional love that surrounds me and is within me
Being queer means acceptance and presence
Being queer means, living, and living in the moment.
Cheers to queer joy

Happy pride month🌈🌈🌈

Art therapy sessions: Joanne Obuyah

This artwork is a reminder to everyone to be kind to themselves, their emotions and feelings, their body and everything within. Also to be kind to those around them since people out there are going through so much that they don’t talk about it.

Discovering my queerness in my teens was exciting and freeing but it soon turned into panic and hiding. I noticed how aggressive the world is towards queers and I feared for my life and the life of a woman I loved. I ended my relationship, suppressed the love I had for women and I continued performing the compulsory straightness of our society.

I reclaimed my queerness at my entry to adulthood, I stopped running and faced the society as a lesbian. I carefully isolated myself from anything and anyone that wanted to convince me not to be me. In my solitude I found my strength, my voice, my desires, my pleasure and my life unfiltered. I found a community, I found siblings that resemble my being, the lone lesbian has a family of queers to relate to, to dance with, to be blatantly queer with, to heal with and to share life with.

In being a lesbian, I get to connect with queer ancestry to carry forth the work they have done for us. I also get to connect with the living community of queers that are beaming lights for this dark and cold world. My queerness is my superpower, it is my reason to live and it is my tree of life.

Queerness. Accepting yourself through a perspective rooted in love. Seeing yourself through self love. Becoming homeless in a world that is polluted with rejecting anything that is different, we ought to love ourselves and build homes in others like us and remember that we are not alone.

All Hail The Queers Photography Magazine

https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/65893004/all-hail-the-queers-photography-magazine

All Hail The Queers Photography Magazine is a collection of photographs created by nine queer artists and queer individuals. The co-creators were reflecting on what it means to be queer and to simply share fractions of themselves through their photographs. The magazine seeks to show the personal lives of its creators, to show the different colours and lenses of queerness, to share the day to day experiences of queers and to move away from the habit of seeing queerness or positioning queers as entertainment for heterosexuals.
